Business and Professional Studies Trainer

Teaching business and professional studies to adult learners

Business and Professional Studies Trainer Location: Middlesbrough / North Yorkshire
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Holiday: 30 days annual leave
Pension: NEST pension
Closing Date: 21 September 2026
Think FE are working with a well-established further education provider in the North Yorkshire and Teesside area to recruit an experienced Business and Professional Studies Trainer on a permanent basis.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced trainer who enjoys working with adult learners and helping people develop the vocational skills, confidence and employability needed to move into work.
The provision supports adults who are currently unemployed or looking to develop new skills, so this role goes beyond delivering a qualification. You will be responsible for creating an engaging learning environment, building learners' confidence and helping them progress towards sustainable employment.
The role As a Business and Professional Studies Trainer, you will primarily deliver Level 1 Business Administration and Customer Service programmes to adult learners.
Courses operate on a rolling basis, with delivery alternating between programmes. You may deliver Business Administration for one cohort before moving on to Customer Service with the next, with new learner groups joining regularly throughout the year.
Alongside vocational delivery, you will support learners with:

  • Employability and preparation for work
  • Confidence building and personal development
  • Workplace communication and professional behaviours
  • Developing practical Business Administration and Customer Service skills
  • Maintaining motivation and engagement
  • Progression towards employment

Many learners may have been out of work for some time or faced barriers to education and employment. Strong learner engagement is therefore central to the position.
You will need to build rapport quickly, manage a varied classroom confidently and adapt your delivery to ensure learners remain motivated and make meaningful progress.

What we're looking for

  • A Level 3 qualification or above in a relevant business or professional subject, such as Business Administration, Customer Service, Management, Leadership, Digital Skills or equivalent
  • A minimum Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Previous teaching or training experience
  • Experience delivering to adult learners or challenging learner groups
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to make vocational learning practical and engaging
  • A strong focus on learner progression and employment outcomes
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent

Due to the nature of the learner groups, the college is looking for someone with previous teaching or training experience who is confident taking ownership of a classroom. This would not be suited to someone completely new to teaching.

Why consider this role?

This position gives you the opportunity to use your Business and Professional Studies knowledge to make a genuine difference to adult learners preparing to return to employment.

The role offers:

  • Permanent employment
  • 37-hour working week
  • 30 days' annual leave
  • NEST pension
  • Regular and varied rolling cohorts
  • A combination of Business, Customer Service and employability delivery
  • The opportunity to support adults directly into employment
  • A supportive adult learning environment

The team is currently based within an adult learning centre in Middlesbrough and is expected to move into new premises in the town in February.

Interview process

The college is keen to move quickly for the right applicant and has good interview availability throughout September and October. The process begins with an initial telephone conversation, followed by a face-to-face interview including a Q&A and micro-teach presentation to the panel.
