About the role:
The SAP Platform Lead, aka Staff Enterprise Technology Engineer, is a senior member of the SAP Platforms leadership team. The role shares accountability for the strategy, engineering, delivery and operational performance of bp's SAP platform estate across on-premises, private cloud, public cloud and SaaS services. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with portfolio ownership, people leadership, financial stewardship, supplier management, risk governance and executive engagement. It leads complex decisions across SAP S4 RISE, on premise ECCs, BWs, S4 Public, SAP Business AI Platform (BTP) and Joule, integration, data and analytics platforms, engineering toolchains, test automation, observability, application lifecycle management and the wider SAP technology ecosystem. This is deliberately broader than a specialist engineering role. The successful candidate will dynamically take more ownership of major SAP platform accountabilities, deputise for the Principal Enterprise Technology Engineer when required.

- Demonstrated experience identifying, shaping and adopting AI, automation and emerging SAP technologies to deliver measurable business value and operational improvements.
What you will need to be successful:
- Extensive experience leading SAP platform engineering squads/teams, operations and transformation delivery within a large, complex global enterprise environment.
- Strong hands-on technical background in SAP technologies, including SAP Basis, SAP technical architecture, SAP BTP, SAP integration technologies, cloud connectivity, identity and access management, platform operations and enterprise-scale SAP landscapes.
- Significant experience designing, operating and modernising SAP workloads across public cloud, private cloud and on-premise environments, including AWS, Azure, SAP RISE and hybrid architectures.
- Demonstrable experience delivering major SAP transformation initiatives involving SAP S/4HANA, BTP, SAP cloud services, Business AI, Joule and enterprise-scale digital transformation programmes.
- Consistent record of working with globally distributed technology teams, managed service providers and strategic technology partners.
- Demonstrated ownership of business-critical technology services, including operational performance, resilience, disaster recovery, cyber security, compliance and risk management.
- Shown accountability for technology budgets, investment planning, commercial governance, software licensing, supplier performance and vendor management.
- Solid experience being a great partner with SAP, SI Partners and other strategic technology providers, including contract negotiations, critical issues, service reviews and value optimisation.
- Recognised SAP technology authority with an established professional network across SAP customers, user groups, industry forums, partners and SAP product organisations, with a reputation for influencing strategy, product direction and industry guidelines.
- Demonstrated experience identifying, shaping and implementing AI, automation and emerging SAP technologies to deliver measurable business value and operational improvements.
- Solid ability to influence senior business, technology and supplier partners, translate technical complexity into business outcomes and lead complex multi-functional decisions.

- S4HANA RISE and other strategic business transformation programmes.
- Senior Technology and Business partners across bp.
- SAP Product Engineering, Customer Success, Business AI, Joule, Cloud Operations and account leadership teams.
- Accenture and other strategic technology partners, including delivery, commercial and executive leadership representatives.
- Procurement, Finance, Vendor Management Office (VMO) and Software Asset Management teams to manage supplier performance, licensing, contracts and technology investments.
- External SAP customer networks, industry forums, user groups, AI communities and technology leaders with a point of view to influence roadmaps, share protocols and maintain awareness of emerging trends.
