Positioning Research Engineer - SLAM / Sensors / Signal

We are partnered with an Edinburgh-based global R&D team developing cutting-edge AI and indoor positioning technologies for smart devices. Focus areas include navigation systems, geospatial data, SLAM, and machine learning, with close ties to academic and industry partners.They are looking to hire consultants specializing in AI and Indoor Positioning at our Edinburgh Research Centre. This systems-focused team seeks engineering-oriented researchers passionate about building innovative software solutions for smartphone users. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in research or engineering, particularly in data and AI systems.You must have full right to work in the UK for this role – visa sponsorship is not available.Key Responsibilities:Develop alternative navigation systems to GNSS for pedestrians and vehiclesAnalyze geospatial data using feature recognition, clustering, classification, and dimensionality reductionContribute to core components of next-generation localization and positioning systemsAdvance cooperative SLAM and AI-driven solutions for handheld devicesMaximize indoor geospatial data modeling potentialDrive innovation in positioning and navigation technologiesCollaborate with academic and industry experts in Edinburgh and across the UKKey Requirements:Expertise in sensor fusion, signal processing, SLAM, and machine learningHands-on research/engineering experience in at least one relevant domainProficiency with Python, PyTorch, and PandasQuick adaptability to emerging technologies and academic literaturePhD in positioning systems, robotics, or machine learning (or equivalent experience)Track record in commercial R&D or relevant academic publicationsExperience with open-source projects in navigation, autonomous systems, or geospatial dataExposure to computer vision and augmented reality developmentBy applying to this role you understand that we may collect your personal data and store and process it on our systems.
