We are super excited to be the sole partner supporting Liverpool City Region to find the UK's first Chief AI Officer in Regional Government! As part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authorities' corporate plan, they pledge to harness AI as a force for good. This role is key in leading the future of AI in the region.

This is a pivotal moment for the Liverpool City Region. As AI technologies evolve at pace, so do the opportunities and responsibilities for public sector leadership. The creation of a Chief AI Officer is more than just a new role; it’s a bold statement of intent. It signals Liverpool City Region’s ambition to lead, not follow, in shaping how AI can be used to improve lives, deliver better services, and build public trust.

As mentioned earlier, this is the first Chief AI Officer role in regional government in the UK, placing Liverpool City Region at the forefront of ethical, inclusive, and innovative AI use in the public sector. As a pioneer in this space, you will have the opportunity to shape not only the region’s approach but potentially set a model for other cities and regions to follow. With strong political backing, a growing innovation ecosystem, and a clear public mandate for ethical technology, there has never been a more exciting time to take on this challenge and to help define what AI Leadership in the public sector should look like.

The Role

  • Leading the City Region’s AI strategy and embedding it in our digital transformation goals.
  • Advocating for ethical AI practices, data privacy and inclusive technology.
  • Developing strategic partnerships at regional, national and international level.
  • Representing Liverpool City Region in forums and roundtables on the future of AI.
  • Guiding teams and collaborating with the Liverpool City Region AI Task Force.
  • Supporting workforce development and skills programmes.
  • Ensuring all initiatives align with our purpose-driven values and priorities.

Your Experience

  • You’ll bring both strategic vision and deep technical expertise. We’re looking for someone who can see the bigger picture and influence change across systems, while also connecting with people and getting things done.
  • Proven experience leading AI transformation at a senior level.
  • Strong technical background in AI, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working with the public sector.
