The Audio-Visual Systems Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of AV and multimedia equipment across the client’s site, supporting both permanent and temporary installations. Working independently or with the Senior AVI Technician, the role includes technical support for live events, venue hires, and exhibitions, as well as content creation and system troubleshooting. Strong AV technical knowledge, experience with hardware/software, and excellent communication skills are essential, as the role involves liaising with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
KEY DUTIES
- Responsible for the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair of audio-visual (AV) equipment used to facilitate the delivery of live and online events, in conjunction with the Senior AVI Technician.
- Perform maintenance checks and daily operations across all areas, including troubleshooting and reporting.
- Liaise with and supervise external contractors involved in the production and installation of electronic, audio-visual, and multimedia equipment, as well as software development for events.
- Collaborate, as required, in cross-functional teams using Project Management Methodology to deliver specific projects and programmes.
- Create, preserve, and modify AV assets for delivery in various environments, including web platforms and mobile devices.
- Prepare technology for conducting and recording interviews, events, and performances according to standards and procedures.
- Assist in the management and documentation of the AV equipment inventory, supplies, and materials.
- Maintain shared and storage areas in a clean and well-organised manner.
- Work safely and responsibly, following safety regulations and practices under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Assist in the installation of AV elements for exhibitions (e.g. projectors, monitors, screens, sound systems), under the guidance of the Senior AVI Technician.
- Assist in the de-installation of AV aspects of exhibitions, displays, and events—salvaging and storing reusable materials and equipment.
- Make recommendations for new equipment purchases, system design, and facility utilisation, with oversight from the Senior AVI Technician.
- Prepare multimedia projects for the online environment.
- Perform remote testing and diagnosis for projectors, video displays, and audio systems.
- Deliver Tier 1, Tier 2, and hybrid Tier 3 events with minimal supervision.
- Act as first-line response for resolving issues or escalating them to the appropriate subcontractor, vendor, or manufacturer.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to the AVI Assistant.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
- Internal: Head of Visitor Experience & Event Operations, Senior AVI Technician, AVI Assistant, IT Manager, Operations & Services Team (including Operations Coordinator and Duty Managers), Other operational teams including Programming, Marketing & Communications, Performance & Development, and Finance & Compliance.
- External: Venue hire clients, Service providers (e.g. equipment hire, system installers, exhibition logistics), Third-party contractors for Cleaning, Facilities & Maintenance, IT & Security, Retail and Food & Beverage partners, Other external service providers.
AV SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN – SPECIFIC TASKS
- Operation of audio systems (in-house PA system, audio mixing console, wireless/wired microphones, audio recording devices, Dante devices, and portable PA systems).
- Scheduled equipment maintenance and troubleshooting (including audio, lighting, video devices, and AVoIP network).
- Keeping track of issues, repairs, connection diagrams, and support tickets raised by other teams.
- Providing technical assistance to other teams and departments.
- Event setup (lighting, audio equipment, camera equipment).
- Content creation and video processing for live and online events.
- Content creation for digital signage (event slides and "What’s On" presentations).
- Content scheduling for digital signage (playlist and schedule creation/adjustment under the direction of the Senior AVI Technician).
- Supporting clients and guests with digital content and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, Adobe Acrobat).
- Liaising with venue hire clients and special event guests on the day of the event.
- Overseeing Tier 1 and Tier 2 events and providing instructions to the AVI Assistant or freelance support.
- Facilitating simplified livestreamed events and assisting with live streaming/video recording for venue hire and special events (Microsoft Teams, Restream with HDMI sources and webcams).
- Using professional software solutions as specified by the Senior AVI Technician – including Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, Yamaha ProVisionaire, MTX Editor, NDI Tools, Cue Server, CuePad Touch, Crestron Touch, Dante Manager, and DVS Content Management Server.
- Representing the AVI Team during meetings and site visits, as required or instructed.
