Under the supervision of the Principal Trading Standards Officer (Special Investigations), to carry out significant investigation enforcement activities across Newport and beyond to reduce the impact of rogue trading by decreasing consumer detriment and ensuring that the effects of such activities, in terms of health and wellbeing, are diminished, particularly in relation to those members of society who are most vulnerable and at risk.
Key Results Areas:
- To undertake, where appropriate, investigations, either on an individual basis or as a team member, into identified breaches or potential breaches of relevant regulatory services legislation and ensure such investigations are carried out with the utmost vigour and meet the highest standards as laid out by statute, codes of practice and best practice.
- To prepare reports for consideration of legal proceedings on such contraventions and to attend court and give evidence as required.
- To exercise enforcement powers in relation to regulatory services legislation and other criminal legislation such as the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
- To interview suspects (including interviewing at police stations prior to charging) utilising the latest best practice techniques to the highest standards.
- To liaise constantly with other Enforcement Agencies, Government Departments and Professional Bodies and attend meetings as a representative of the Team and the team leaders across Regulatory Services.
