Job Purpose

To lead and support a team of HGV Drivers and operational staff in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality waste collection, street cleansing, recycling, or transport services across Monmouthshire County Council. The postholder will ensure compliance with transport regulations, health and safety standards, and service delivery targets while providing day-to-day supervision and guidance to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) safely and efficiently in accordance with legal and council requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of drivers and loaders to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Conduct vehicle checks and ensure defects are reported promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with Driver Hours Regulations, Tachograph rules, and road transport legislation.
  • Support route planning and allocation of duties to maximise operational efficiency.
  • Monitor staff attendance, timekeeping, and performance standards.
  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and support to team members.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Liase with supervisors, managers, and members of the public professionally and effectively.
  • Assist in investigating incidents, accidents, or service complaints when required.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment, and work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
  • Complete relevant paperwork, reports, and digital records accurately.

Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence required.
