PURPOSE OF THE JOB To assist in ensuring that the Highways Division meets service, legislative and council policy requirements, through inspection of infrastructure, supervision of highway and other public realm works and standards, and assisting in the delivery of highways projects. This role involves long periods of walking and standing on street in all weathers.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Understand the law in relation to highway authority highway networks.
- Plan, coordinate and carry out inspections.
- Identify the risk level of a specific defect based on a dimension-based or dimensionless inspection approach.
- Escalate/de-escalate the urgency level of repairs based on risk.
- Use data capture devices and computer based systems for reporting on and updating of asset registers and inventories, maintenance and condition surveys, work instruction and findings.
- Understand the core principles of asset management.
- Avoid conflict and duplication of works by coordinating their works with other internal and external bodies.
- Interact with customers.
- Create small patching programmes for approval by maintenance engineers and update highways inventory records after works have been carried out.
- Represent the Council's interests by giving evidence in a Court of Law on all matters relating to incidents on the Public Highway.
