As a Caseworker you will provide intensive support and advice to a caseload of families. This role involves providing responsive, professional, user-centred support and advice working with all relevant agencies as required. The postholder will be part of a team of peripatetic staff providing support to individuals and groups of people who have arrived in Flintshire as refugees. To focus on working to achieve successful outcomes for service users engaged with the Service in line with the requirements of the Home Office, UK Government and Welsh Government.
Principal Accountabilities
- Carry a caseload providing intense and holistic support to families relocating.
- Provide an expert advisory and support service to customers whose health and wellbeing is reliant upon the postholder managing and resolving issues relating to their mental, social and financial wellbeing.
- Build trust with customers to establish relationships that can last over several months.
- Ensure preparations for new arrivals are in place and make practical arrangements.
- Refer families to appropriate service providers, supporting the process of making contact on their behalf.
- Encourage and support clients to live as fully and independently as possible within the local community.
- Manage and acquire translation services for clients on a day-to-day basis.
- Support families with necessary paperwork to enable service users to access services.
- Keep accurate records of casework and monitoring data in line with the requirements of the projects Service Level Agreement.
- Keep abreast of changes in service provision, eligibility of clients and relevant legislation; disseminate this information to colleagues and other service providers.
- Assist and guide service users to access permanent accommodation and provide appropriate support for those preparing to move-on from temporary accommodation.
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of providing advice and support such as Benefits, Housing or Debt Advice to vulnerable people.
- Experience of making decisions about their own caseload without reference to anyone else.
- Demonstrate an ability to manage their own time and prioritise their own workloads.
- Excellent knowledge of a range of statutory and voluntary sector services.
- A strong understanding of services available and the needs of families and individuals moving into the UK.
- Experience of managing a caseload with regard to Benefits, Housing or Financial Capability.
- Understanding and knowledge of the processes in relation to the UK benefits system, housing regulations and financial management.
- Experience of working effectively within a diverse team to ensure excellent client outcomes.
- To communicate and report to project partners.
- Excellent ICT skills required, particularly with regard to Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.
