Our client is currently seeking a Senior Development Control Engineer to join their Transport Development Control team. You will technically assess and advise on the transportation aspects of planning applications, playing a key role in shaping the district's transport network for future generations. As part of the Local Highway Authority, the Transport Development Control team is central to this transformation, ensuring that new communities, businesses, and infrastructure are supported by safe, sustainable, and future ready transport solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offering specialist transportation and highways advice for planning applications, considering the safety of all road users, travel sustainability, accessibility, technical guidance, and adherence to local and national policies.
  • Working with developers, partners, and stakeholders to manage development related mitigation and influence on planned transport solutions.
  • Encouraging developers to maximise their sustainable travel options and offerings.
  • Reviewing and applying appropriate policies, considering development impacts, and negotiating developer funded mitigations compliant with Community Infrastructure Levy guidance.
  • Presenting transportation evidence at planning appeals, public inquiries, and council meetings, addressing related questions at planning and other committees.
  • Producing information reports and analysing complex data for customers.
  • Monitoring performance and reviewing potential changes to systems to ensure successful service delivery.

Job Requirements

  • Relevant professional or equivalent degree level qualification (BSc, BEng or BA) in a subject such as transport planning or highway engineering.
  • Experience in UK planning and development control from a transport or highways perspective.
  • Understanding of highway and transport infrastructure and the factors influencing its design and operation.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in developing processes and procedures for transportation projects.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to understand and interpret complex data, offering solutions and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, numeracy, and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in isolation and manage competing demands with good time management and flexibility.
  • Potential to assist in the management and development of the team.
