As an H&I Administrative Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of life-saving diagnostic services for patients and donors across NHS Blood and Transplant. You will provide accurate, timely administrative support that keeps sensitive information flowing safely and efficiently, helping clinical teams make informed decisions. Working as part of a supportive team, you will liaise with colleagues, hospitals and external partners, ensuring every interaction reflects our commitment to care and quality. The working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm daily and the role is based on site. Please note that handling blood samples is a key part of this role so you will need to be comfortable with this.

Main duties of the job:

  • Deliver accurate administrative support to enable timely, high-quality diagnostic services for patients and donors.
  • Manage enquiries confidently, providing clear, helpful responses and escalating where needed to maintain excellent service.
  • Process patient and donor information with precision, ensuring confidentiality and data quality at all times.
  • Coordinate the collection and dispatch of samples to meet clinical urgency and support patient care.
  • Maintain and update laboratory systems, ensuring records, requests and reports are accurate and accessible.
  • Support laboratory workflows by organising diaries, tracking urgent activity and keeping teams informed.
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues, hospitals and partner organisations to support joined-up care.
  • Prepare reports, documentation and meeting materials that help teams make informed decisions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by supporting audits, training compliance and process updates.
  • Work flexibly with colleagues to maintain service continuity and deliver a reliable, high-quality service.
