St Albans HC is seeking a passionate Women's Performance Squad Head Coach who will be responsible for leading all aspects of coaching, performance and player development. Working with the Head of Performance Development, they will define and drive the vision and strategy. They will need to create a high-performance environment, implement effective training programmes, including strategy, tactics and playing principles. The role will include responsibility for player recruitment, succession planning, and talented youth development.

Commitment

  • Attend and deliver performance squad training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and the league match at the weekend.
  • Occasional attendance at youth training to support player development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training and match preparation: Plan and deliver high-quality training sessions that focus on technical, tactical development and strength and conditioning. Prepare the team for competitive matches, including pre-match analysis and strategy development and feedback.
  • Player Development: Foster a positive and high-performance culture. Develop individual player skills through tailored coaching and feedback, including video analysis and data analysis. Work closely with the club's wider coaching team to create a pathway for talent progression of youth players.
  • Team Management and development: Manage squad selection and ensure clear communication with players. Work proactively with the 2nd team coach and provide input to selection of the team, working closely with the captain/coach to provide feedback to the players. Build strong relationships with players, club staff and stakeholders. Work with and mentor the 2nd team coach.
  • Performance Analysis: Analyse match performance using video and data to inform coaching decisions. Identify areas for improvement and implement targeted development plans.

Skills and Qualities Required

  • Minimum England Hockey Level 2 Coaching qualification (or equivalent), Level 3 preferred.
  • Experience of coaching at a high-performance level.
  • Strong understanding of modern hockey tactics and player development strategies.
  • Proven ability to implement effective training programmes and match strategies.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and manage players in a competitive environment.
