We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Lecturer in Carpentry to join our Construction team at Sandwell College. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced construction professional or qualified lecturer to play a key role in delivering high quality teaching, learning and assessment across Carpentry programmes within a further education environment. You will inspire and motivate learners, helping them to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to progress into employment or further study within the construction industry. Working closely with the Head of Section and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the ongoing development of an engaging and industry responsive curriculum, ensuring students receive an outstanding learning experience that promotes achievement and progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high quality Carpentry programmes effectively in line with curriculum requirements.
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of diverse learner groups.
- Develop and produce effective teaching and learning materials using ILT and multimedia resources.
- Act as a course tutor, providing pastoral support, guidance and academic mentoring to learners.
- Contribute to curriculum planning, design and continuous improvement activities.
- Carry out internal verification and moderation activities to support quality assurance processes.
- Promote high standards of professionalism, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion at all times.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A degree and/or appropriate professional qualification relevant to the department.
- Hold a D32/33/A1/TAQA or working towards.
- Teaching qualification (e.g. Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification) or willingness to work towards.
- Hold a D34/V1.
- Experience of delivering relevant qualifications.
- Experience of internal verification/moderation.
- Experience of excellent teaching and learning practice.
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding
To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:
- DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- Certificate in Education
- PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
- ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
- DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
- DiT (Diploma in Teaching) - if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).
