We have an exciting career development opportunity for a Paediatric Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to help lead and manage our growing designated paediatric emergency service. We are a self-contained unit situated within our main A&E Department. We see approximately 50-90 children a day covering all specialities, except minor injury as they are seen within the urgent care centre. This position offers the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of paediatric emergency care and management at a senior level when deputising for the Senior Sister. The successful post holder will be supported by the Senior Sister and the Matron for Paediatric ED. There are opportunities to undertake management study days to support your development within this role.
We are seeking professional individuals with the following:
- A NMC registered paediatric nurse
- A passion for quality patient focused care
- Previous experience of paediatric emergency nursing or paediatric ITU/HDU
- A willingness to undertake a leadership role
Main duties of the job:
- To act as the shift co-coordinator on a day to day basis, providing supervision and support to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Develop, manage and monitor the performance of a team of nurses, ensuring that the highest standards of care and safety are achieved and maintained at all times.
- Promote effective communication and teamwork at all levels.
- Demonstrate clinical leadership skills and evidence of specialist knowledge.
- Assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in management of staff within the Emergency Department including human resource management, clinical governance and risk management.
- Contribute toward the strategic and operational development of the department.
Person Specification:
- Degree/Diploma in Nursing or equivalent experience
- Current NMC Registration - RNC
- Demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to the area.
- Knowledge of Emergency / Paediatric care issues
- Emergency nursing experience, ability to rapidly triage and prioritise care
- Ability to deal with and resolve conflict
- A&E Clinical Care /High Dependency course
- Paediatric Intermediate Life Support course
- Leadership course
