We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join our skilled teams as a casual Residential Childcare Officer supporting young people in our children's homes. Trafford Council has 2 children's homes; one is registered for 5 children, and one is registered for 6 children, although occupancy rarely increases above 4. The homes care for children with social, emotional and mental health needs as well as autism, ADHD and mild learning difficulties.

You will work within a team to meet the day-to-day care needs of the children and young people living at the home. You will need to be able to form good working relationships with the young people and develop a good knowledge of their individual needs. Working within a staff team you will support the home to provide high standards of care and accommodation. You need to be a good role model to the young people, be an advocate and ensure you listen and act on their wishes. We work to create and maintain a loving and homely environment for the young people in which they are given opportunities to thrive. We provide a nurturing and restorative approach to support young people to be safe and achieve their goals and aspirations.

Duties will include driving young people to appointments/school/family time, cooking, some paperwork, keeping the home tidy and safe, shopping etc.

This role will require you to establish strong relationships with children and their families; you will have empathy whilst being able to create good routines and explain expectations. Key characteristic requirements of this post are: flexibility, commitment, building effective relationships, resilience, persistence and the ability to progress plans. The post requires an enhanced DBS, working a rota, and undertaking sleeping in duties. In this role, casual workers receive accrued holiday percentage of 12.66%. The home operates a rota to provide 24 hour care. You will be required to work on a rota and an unsocial hours allowance of 6% will be paid. The role involves shift work which includes evening and weekend working. An enhanced DBS check with children barred list check will be required. You will be required to drive in this role.
