The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this post. This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service. The West Area Team is looking for an experienced, organised and enthusiastic Receptionist to work at Tywyn Health Centre, Tywyn. This practice is currently being managed by the Local Health Board.

Main duties of the job:

  • Previous experience of working within a GP Practice would be beneficial and knowledge of the EMIS clinical system is desirable; however training can be given.
  • The demands of a GP practice can change on a daily basis and therefore this role will be challenging.
  • The post holder will be booking appointments and dealing with patient queries, so excellent communication skills and a confident telephone manner are required.
  • Proficient IT skills (including experience of Microsoft Office) are also required as the post holder will perform a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth day‑to‑day running of the practice, including data inputting.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a healthcare setting or a customer‑service environment, though full training can be given to the right candidate.

Qualifications:

  • A good standard of general education
  • NVQ Level 2 in administration or equivalent qualification/experience
  • ECDL Word processing qualification (e.g., RSA 2, or equivalent experience)

Experience:

  • Experience of using Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience of working in a busy reception or office environment
  • Experience of dealing with the public on the phone and face to face
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment
  • Experience of using an IT system (e.g., EMIS, Oracle, WPAS)
  • Experience of working in a GP surgery or an NHS office environment

Skills:

  • Ability to input information onto a computer system with speed and accuracy
  • Ability to deal with a number of different tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with issues on the spot
  • Shorthand skills

Knowledge:

  • An understanding of confidentiality involved with post
  • Knowledge of a range of administrative processes
