Main duties of the job

  • Supporting patients face to face or by telephone.
  • Assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
  • Facilitating effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.

About us

Our team consists of 4 Partners, 2 salaried GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Nurse Associates, Physios and Pharmacists and we are a well-established Training Practice for GP Registrars and Medical Students. We have over 1200 registered patients and are part of Hawthorn & Merchiston PCN. We have a very supportive and enthusiastic management team, excellent administrative and a reception team who are well supported.

Job responsibilities

  • Receiving and calling patients.
  • Navigating patients to the correct service.
  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system.
  • Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Taking messages and passing on information.
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers.
  • Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required.
  • Arranging transport for patients where appropriate.
  • Scanning documents into patients' records.
  • Other general duties as required.

  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
