This role is extremely rewarding in making a difference to people's lives. The role of the Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner is to support the delivery of evidenced based, equitable stop smoking services to help reduce inequalities throughout the contracted localities. This will include the delivery of services within areas of most deprivation. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, independently and as part of a team. Training will be given to ensure staff/applicants are equipped to deliver effective services.
Main duties of the job
- The successful candidate will be responsible for motivating and empowering individuals to make positive changes to address nicotine dependence and achieve successful quit outcomes.
- You will deliver evidence-based stop smoking interventions in line with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme, providing support through one-to-one appointments, group sessions, drop-ins, telephone consultations, and online delivery.
- Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals and community partners, you will help embed smoking cessation into routine care pathways, maximise health gains, and contribute to reducing health inequalities.
- The role will involve delivering education on smoking cessation, behaviour change, and relapse prevention, facilitating peer support sessions for successful quitters, and supporting individuals to set realistic and sustainable goals.
- You will use health and equalities data to help inform service delivery and identify local needs, while ensuring all client records and service documentation are maintained accurately and in line with ABL Health policies and procedures.
Person Specification
- Skills/knowledge to utilise computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Have a positive outlook with an ability to inspire confidence, provide vision and motivate people.
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to influence using skills and knowledge.
- Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
- Understanding concepts of behaviour change and how to implement these.
- Understanding and evidence of adhering to information governance policies.
- Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
- Experience of developing and delivering training to target audiences.
- Understanding of national guidance and ability to disseminate research and best practice.
- Knowledge of the wider tobacco control agenda.
- Understanding of addiction.
