The predicted salary is between 29970 - 36483 £ per year.
Responsible for carrying out tasks related to the decontamination process, including cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment. Items are prepared to ensure they are safe and ready for use in patient treatment across Theatres, Wards, and other clinical departments, in compliance with established protocols and infection control standards. This fixed term secondment lasts 12 months.
Main duties of the job:
- Cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment.
- Ensuring all items are prepared to the highest standards for use in Theatres, Wards, and other clinical departments.
- Operate and maintain decontamination equipment in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with infection control and health & safety standards.
- Accurately record and maintain documentation relating to instrument processing and traceability.
- Assist with stock control and the safe storage of sterile items.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and clinical teams to support service delivery.
Travel duties (as required):
- Transport sterile instruments and equipment between hospital sites or departments.
- Ensure safe handling and secure delivery of items in line with HB policies.
Welsh Skills Desirable:
This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. It's not essential; speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above are considered an advantage. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
Qualifications:
- Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) Technical Certificate OR Vocational Level 3 Decontamination OR Equivalent level of knowledge, work experience and skills within a decontamination role.
Knowledge:
- Essential: Some knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
- Desirable: Familiar with ISO13485:2016 and UKMDR 2002 (as amended). Welsh Language Speaking/Listening Skills at Level 3 or above.
Experience:
- Essential: Previous experience in Sterile Services.
- Desirable: Working in a clean room environment. Work involving visual inspection and packaging.
