Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for suitably qualified nurses to join our proactive team. We are also happy to support newly qualified nurses who would like a career in acute nursing. We have 1 dedicated Education Facilitator who ensures that all staff are trained and equipped to work within the ever-changing ward environment. Newly qualified nurses will have a 12-month preceptorship with one of our experienced staff.

We require excellent nurses who want exciting, challenging roles, to deliver first-class high-quality patient care. We are a unique unit that has an Enhanced Care Area (ECA) where we provide care to Level 1 patients. Each Staff Nurse will get an opportunity of a rotation to our ECA. These patients come directly from A & E and may require respiratory support, cardiac monitoring, or other high dependency care.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Assessing, planning, developing, and implementing programmes of care to patients.
  • Carrying out nursing procedures in line with current NMC standards of proficiency.
  • Ensuring the health, wellbeing, and independence of patients across healthcare settings.
  • Supervision of junior staff and learners.
  • Understanding and demonstrating the Trust values at all times.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Providing and receiving complex information, communicating sensitively and confidentially.
  • Planning and organising a defined caseload of patients.
  • Maintaining appropriate levels of training for clinical skills.
  • Responding to complaints/concerns in the absence of Sister/Charge Nurse.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team decision making.
  • Undertaking risk assessments and implementing risk-reducing measures.

To actively participate in the effective and efficient use of ward resources, including stock management and care of equipment. You will also be responsible for managing your own time and that of others, supporting the department's appraisal process for junior staff.

To contribute to the collection of data for research and audit purposes and to identify relevant audit topics. You will need to maintain a professional portfolio and reflective diary for developmental purposes and revalidation.

Person Specification:

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse (degree/diploma).
  • Current NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build relationships.
