As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will promote and support a person’s recovery. Flexible bank shifts, long‑term placements for Band 5 Mental Health Nurses are also available at University Hospital Southampton.
Main Duties:
- Assess and plan nursing care requirements.
- Build relationships with, reassure, listen to, and talk to patients.
- Combat stigma and help patients and families manage it.
- Administer medication.
- Support patients with everyday tasks including personal care.

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality care to patients.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
- Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment.
Person Specification:
- Minimum of 6 months MH RN UK (Private or NHS) hospital/Prison experience within the last 2 years or completion of a Return to Practice within the last 2 years.
- NMC registration.
- Experience of working within a mental health hospital setting.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high standard of record keeping.
- Be able to work as an independent practitioner.
- Be proficient in the delivery of care to patients.
- Undertake regular mandatory training.
- Must hold Valid PMVA Certificate.
Qualifications:
- At least 6 months experience as a Mental Health Registered Nurse (or equivalent position) in a mental health hospital or prison setting within the last 2 years, with ability to carry out basic clinical observations.
- Minimum: Hold a MH Nursing Degree and have valid NMC registration.
