Responsibilities
- As the Chemical Process Technician you will have impacts on Manufacturing, Chemical Processing, Quality and Engineering departments internally at Building Systems UK.
- You will also play a major role in the adherence of data and processes inspected by internal/external auditing regulatory bodies and data used to understand concessions, internal NCRs and customer complaints.
- You will have direct responsibility for undertaking blending and offload activities, understanding the key processing parameters for successful chemical blending and chemically testing in the laboratory to high degrees of accuracy and precision, including preventative maintenance of equipment used in these activities.
- You will be responsible for the accurate reporting and archiving of these results in the Businesses quality management system for multiple streams of raw materials and their respective delivery and analysis certificates and technical datasheets.
- Ensure that operations, including those undertaken in the Company's behalf by third party service providers, are conducted in a manner that fully complies with Tata Health and Safety, quality, environmental and corporate policies.
- To measure and test Factory Production Control PIR sandwich panel samples in line with standard BS EN 14509. Accurately recording all data in business management systems.
- To provide support to the Chemical Processing and Laboratory Manager in the laboratory and scale up development of new or existing foam formulations and their related processes.
- To monitor plant performance and identify where improvements could be made with respect to quality and productivity.
- Performing preventative maintenance tasks on plant equipment and identification of drifts in performance of said equipment.
- Drive engagement between the Operations and Material Control departments to forecast chemical usages for the panel manufacturing lines and facilitate the availability of raw material chemicals to prevent downtime due to foreseen stock shortages.
- To monitor and track chemical consumable stocks in the laboratory for testing and for the blending facility for bulk chemical offloads.
Qualifications
- To be successful in this role, the Chemical Process Technician would typically have experience of working in a manufacturing and/or industrial laboratory environment to high standards of quality and tight time scales.
- An understanding of GLP (Good laboratory practice) and pumping/metering equipment is desirable.
- The ideal person should also have experience of working in a multi-functional team and previous experience of problem solving, lean six sigma and quality is preferred, as is mechanical experience.
- The ability to demonstrate qualities of flexibility, initiative, drive and commitment.
- Previous experience of administering international quality management systems (ISO 9001) although not essential, as full training will be given.
- The ability to work safely under pressure and to tight timescales.
- Good all round education with strong numeracy, literacy, and IT skills (particularly in Microsoft Excel).
- Good influencing and communication skills.
- A Chemical Process Technician would typically be qualified to Chemistry A Level with a BTEC Level 3 in a Science based discipline or similar.
