Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Part‑time, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working considered. Flexible days except Tuesdays (team meeting day). Thursdays and Fridays must be covered.

Hours: 1 × 25.9 hrs per week (0.7 FTE) supporting Children in Care; 1 × 22.2 hrs per week (0.6 FTE) supporting unaccompanied asylum‑seeking young people (UASC).

Location: Glebelands, Shoreham‑by‑Sea. Must travel independently across the county; driving licence preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychologically informed assessment, consultation, formulation and therapeutic intervention for children and young people who have experienced trauma, adversity and disrupted attachment.
  • Support Children in Care and their carers/networks through drop‑in consultations, time‑limited consultation spaces and reflective practice groups for social work colleagues.
  • Lead reflective practice groups and coordinate training for the workforce.
  • Triaged referrals, conduct initial assessments and develop care packages.
  • Deliver trauma‑informed, systems‑based and evidence‑based interventions, including dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP) where appropriate.
  • Provide support to unaccompanied asylum‑seeking young people and their networks, including interpreter‑assisted work if required.
  • Collaborate with care leavers service, child asylum team, and residential/fostering staff.
  • Contribute to the development and innovation of the Attach service.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant professional qualifications in either: Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist, Professional Master’s in Systemic Family Psychotherapy with HCPC registration, or Professional Doctorate in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy with HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children, young people and families, and knowledge of key legislation.
  • Experience delivering interventions for Children in Care with a systemic and integrative focus (desired).
  • Good understanding of trauma‑informed and attachment‑based models.
  • Interest in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP); training available.
  • Confidence, compassion and capacity to work within a multidisciplinary local authority setting.

The Attach Service delivers psychological support to Children We Care For, Care Leavers, Unaccompanied Asylum‑Seeking and Special Guardianship teams, including support for residential and fostering services. It aims to improve emotional well‑being, placement stability, relational health and trauma‑informed practice across social care services.
