About the role:

Sheffield City Council is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled Qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join the Deaf/Hearing Support Service. This is a full‑time post supporting profoundly d/Deaf children and young people, predominantly in our integrated resource provision at Silverdale, across Key Stages 3 and 4 and Post‑16. The role will focus on improving access to learning and supporting examination studies. The role may also include peripatetic support for d/Deaf learners in post‑16 settings across the city and may involve supporting students at GCSE and A level. You will join a well‑established specialist service that includes a peripatetic team and four integrated resources within mainstream primary and secondary schools. The post offers an opportunity to work as part of a committed team, supporting children and young people to achieve, participate fully in education and develop independence.

About you:

You will be a qualified Teacher of the Deaf with a minimum of Level 2 BSL and experience of working with d/Deaf students at Key Stages 3, 4 and Post‑16. You will have a strong understanding of exam access arrangements and support for GCSE and A level assessments, alongside the flexibility, commitment and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with children, young people, families, schools and partner professionals. Experience of delivering KS3, 4 and 5 curricula to students with a range of needs; supporting transition of students between settings and a rigorous understanding of city‑wide approaches to PfA, EHCPs, and other supportive agencies and networks to support d/Deaf young people would also be advantageous.

About the service:

The Deaf Support Service forms part of Sheffield City Council's 0‑25 SEND Service. The service provides specialist support and a range of communication approaches tailored to the individual needs of children and young people, helping them to access learning, achieve their potential and thrive in education. The successful candidate will be required to undertake all relevant pre‑employment checks, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Full‑time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement.
