This RCVS-accredited purpose-built veterinary hospital in West Yorkshire is seeking an experienced surgical veterinary surgeon to join its established and highly skilled team. The modern hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including an on-site CT scanner, and is supported by a team of 18 vets, several of whom hold certificates. The practice manages a diverse and advanced surgical caseload, offering an excellent environment for an experienced surgeon to thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a wide range of surgical procedures, including routine operations, emergency interventions and advanced procedures such as TPLO and patella luxation surgery, with mentorship available where required.
  • Accept surgical referrals within the scope of the individual's expertise, participate in a 1 in 4 weekend rota and oversee post operative recovery and ongoing patient care.
  • Collaborate with veterinary nurses and support staff to ensure smooth day to day operations, commit to continuous professional development and stay up to date with advances in veterinary medicine.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, including those on the VetGDP programme.

Qualifications

  • MRCVS registered.
  • Proven experience in veterinary practice.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling complex information to be clearly explained to pet owners and clinical teams.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail in record keeping and treatment planning.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compassionate and professional approach towards animals and their owners.
  • Holding or working towards a postgraduate certificate in surgery or a similar qualification; experience in orthopaedics particularly desirable.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary in the region of £60,000 to £75,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience, certification and Advanced Practitioner status.
  • 6.6 weeks paid holiday inclusive of bank holidays.
  • Generous CPD allowance starting at £1,750 plus five days per year and increasing to £2,500 for Advanced Practitioners.
  • Payment of RCVS membership and two additional professional subscriptions, VDS cover, company sick pay and annual pay reviews.
