In addition to pool duties, you are part of the Course Assistant team and contribute to the delivery of free time, evening, and weekend activities, helping to create a safe, positive, and engaging summer school experience. You may be allocated to a specific department, such as Sports, Language or Operations, giving you the chance to build specialised skills while supporting the wider programme.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure only students with swim consent and adequate ability enter the pool, conducting tests if necessary.
  • Enforce all safety/operating procedures including pool covering/uncovering.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies performing life‑saving first aid.
  • Provide pastoral support listening to concerns and collaborating with House Parents for a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Maintain professional boundaries without becoming "friends" and promptly report concerns.

Additional Duties

  • Attend daily staff meetings.
  • Follow Staff Handbook guidelines.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties.

Salary: From £595 per week (including holiday pay)

About You: All staff are responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the centre while upholding the highest standards of safety and care. We look for team members who are friendly, positive, approachable, remain calm and professional in all situations. Staff must be reliable role models with high personal standards, respect confidentiality and professional boundaries, work effectively as team players contributing to a positive environment, and fully embrace the Team Orange spirit.

Job Specific Personal Specification & Qualifications: To be suitable for this role, you possess native or near‑native competence in written and spoken English (minimum CEFR C1 level) and hold a valid UK National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification (NPTLS or equivalent), with experience working with children or young people, preferably in residential or summer school settings. You motivate and engage students of varying ages and abilities through strong leadership and teamwork skills, good communication and interpersonal abilities with students and colleagues, and an enthusiastic, approachable, friendly, and reliable attitude. You adapt flexibly to changing schedules and duties, adhere to safeguarding and child protection policies, maintain professionalism in appearance, conduct, and language, and fully participate in camp life including supervising meals, free time, and excursions. You commit to being fully present during activities by limiting personal phone usage to maximise interactions, demonstrate cultural sensitivity for inclusive work with diverse groups, take initiative beyond duties, and embrace feedback for continuous professional development. Ideally, you bring relevant qualifications or experience in coaching sports or music, summer school operations like pastoral care, admin, organisation, or leading events/trips, and public speaking or presentation skills to confidently address groups and lead activities.
