About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised and detail‑oriented Engineering Administrator / Technical Author to join our growing team. This is a varied role that combines technical documentation, engineering administration, and wider business support within a dynamic manufacturing environment. Working closely with our Mechanical, Electrical, and Automation Engineering teams, you will play a key role in ensuring the accurate production of machine instruction manuals, maintenance of engineering data, and administration of engineering processes. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working across multiple departments and thrives in a fast‑paced engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Instruction Manuals
    • Produce and update machine instruction manuals in line with customer orders and project requirements.
    • Manage translation requirements where necessary.
    • Create contact parts lists and collate material certificates for inclusion within manuals.
    • Generate machine spare parts lists and relevant spare parts reports.
    • Collate engineering drawings and ensure they are presented in a suitable format.
    • Provide manuals in both electronic (PDF) and hard‑copy formats.
  • Engineering Administration
    • Provide administrative support to Mechanical, Electrical and Automation Engineering teams.
    • Standardise and maintain part numbering and descriptions within the ERP system.
    • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for purchasing.
    • Issue Drawing Office Instructions (DOIs) following BOM creation and distribute to Purchasing.
    • Collate and submit engineering timesheets as required by Payroll.
    • Manage Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Design Change Requests (DCRs), ensuring accurate logging and filing within project records.
  • Business Support
    • Provide administrative assistance to other departments as required.
    • Support Production and Projects teams with KPI data collection and reporting.
    • Assist with the migration and updating of historical data into modern storage systems.
    • Liaise with suppliers to obtain delivery updates and resolve outstanding order queries.
    • Ensure supplier documentation is maintained for Approved Supplier List compliance.
    • Collate validation documentation for subcontractor validation engineers.
    • Provide telephone cover for incoming calls on an ad‑hoc basis.
    • Participate in internal audit activities supporting ISO 9001 accreditation.

About You:

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Strong attention to detail with a "right first time" approach.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and manage competing deadlines.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Team player with a proactive attitude.
  • Good decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • ERP system experience.

Desirable Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience within an engineering organisation.
  • Experience working within a medium to large manufacturing business.
  • Manufacturing industry experience.
  • HNC/HND qualification in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience using Winman ERP.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Tenacious and adaptable approach to work.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and embrace change.
