As a valued member of our group privacy team, based in London, you will provide legal advice and guidance on privacy matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Reporting to the UK & EMEA Privacy Lead you will work with various business units and stakeholders to ensure privacy is embedded in new initiatives and projects, including several AI projects. Our group privacy team is part of the legal tribe and works with other privacy and data protection stakeholders at Wise, including engineering teams, risk, operations and the business teams that develop and manage financial products and services.

What You'll Work On

  • Product Counselling, including advising on DPIAs for high risk processing and strategic AI initiatives;
  • Wise Platform and Banking Partner Contracting;
  • Advising on privacy requirements for expansion into new jurisdictions;
  • Advising on data sharing arrangements;
  • Drafting and reviewing privacy policies and notices;
  • Horizon scanning and advising on regulatory changes;
  • Advising on a range of privacy and data matters relating to AI adoption at Wise;
  • Compliance with cross-border data protection requirements;
  • Training and Awareness;
  • Managing data breach response and regulatory notifications;
  • Handling communications with Data Protection Authorities;
  • Localising and implementing global privacy policies, procedures and controls at entity level;
  • Assisting with periodic global and/or entity audits;
  • Support Implementation of data governance and AI governance frameworks.

  • You will have strong project management skills and be able to break through walls to get things done, collaborating with cross functional teams to find practical solutions.
  • Significant exposure to privacy and AI issues in the UK and Europe with an emphasis on use of EU/UK data in sophisticated market scenarios;
  • Experienced in handling privacy inquiries, complaints and incidents;
  • Experience in privacy by design and data protection impact assessments, including for AI initiatives;
  • Experience in dealing with data protection regulators on privacy matters;
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating privacy related contracts and developing compliance and auditing frameworks;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English;
  • Admitted to practice law in the UK or a European jurisdiction;
  • A problem solving attitude, with the ability to use regulation together with data to drive business decisions;
  • Strong relationship management skills with ability to deepen relationships and build partnerships across the business, including in operations, engineering, and risk;
  • Comfortable taking the initiative and working across multiple business lines and jurisdictions;
  • An understanding of digital and consumer focused businesses, including new and developing businesses is also advantageous;
  • Ability to drive and deliver projects from inception to completion, timely and with attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Relevant privacy qualification, such as CIPM, CIPP or equivalent;
  • Financial services experience is a plus;
  • Experience of data anonymisation, PETS, and familiarity with ethical frameworks, data governance and accountability.
