Responsibilities
- Protect the public and help make a positive impact on prisoners' lives.
- Support the prison community, maintain safety and act as a peacekeeper when required.
- Build constructive, professional relationships with prisoners and other staff.
- Work as part of a dedicated team, showing commitment to colleagues and the safety of everyone.
- Work a range of shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Take on varied roles such as counsellor or teacher when needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- At least 18 years old at the start of employment.
- Meet Civil Service nationality requirements.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment, including eyesight and hearing tests.
- Meet required eyesight standards in both eyes (with or without corrective lenses).
- Have suitable hearing (without hearing aids).
- Have no offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating tattoos; facial tattoos are generally not accepted unless cultural, religious or medical.
Additional Requirements for High Security (Category A)
- Resided in the UK for the last 3 years.

- Annual salary reflects weekly hours: 37 hrs - £35,746; 39 hrs - £37,875; 41 hrs - £40,003.
