I am a gentleman with Motor Neurone Disease, living at home with my wife in Peebles. I am looking for a small team of Personal Assistants to come and support me at home. I also have some social time allocated per week. I have little use of my arms and hands but am still mobile.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Mornings (1.25 hours) – ideally around 7:30/7:45am but can be flexible. I need someone to come and supervise me with transferring from bed, through to the bathroom to have a shower/wash. Please allow me the time to use the toilet, if required. Please shower/wash me. Please support me with any grooming and oral hygiene as required. Once showered/washed, please support me to dry thoroughly and get into clean clothes for the day. Once ready, please then prepare a breakfast and drink of choice – I will need support from you to eat and drink. Finally, please ensure I have everything I need before leaving.
  • Teatime (45 minutes) – ideally around 5/5:15pm but can be flexible. I need someone to come and prepare our evening meal. Before starting, please check in with me to see if I need to use the toilet – if I have been in by myself through the day it may be required. I would still like to be included in the kitchen but will need you to prepare and cook for me. I would like to be there to instruct and guide though. Once prepared, please support me with eating and drinking, again, allowing me to do as much for myself as possible. Finally, please ensure I have everything I need before leaving.
  • I also have some social time allocated each week – I have been awarded 2 hours per week to be used to allow me to be social and get out and about. Ideally I would like someone who can accompany me whilst I head out on my recumbent trike – I am a keen cyclist and love to get out when I can, so someone who could hop on their bike and join me would be great.

Personal attributes

  • Someone who is kind and patient, with a caring nature.
  • I would like someone who is reliable, trustworthy and values confidentiality.

Hours of work

Mornings 1.25 hours at around 7:30/7:45 and teatimes for 45 minutes at around 5/5:15pm – I can be flexible to suit though so if these times don't work for you, we can have a chat about what will. As mentioned, the 2 hours social time can be completely flexible over the week.

The terms

£14.50 per hour. 5.6 weeks annual leave calculated on a pro‑rata basis. PVG required.
