Constructive Bio is a VC backed biotech startup based in Whittlesford, Cambridge. We are a venture backed biotechnology startup that turns living cells into biofactories, creating sustainable new materials and therapeutics. With full control of the genetic sequence and code, we explore chemical space previously unreached by natural biology. Constructive Bio is a spin out from Professor Jason Chin's laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a proactive and reliable Lab Support Associate - Goods In, to join our Operations team in a busy laboratory environment. This role is primarily focused on receiving, unpacking, checking, and organising deliveries, ensuring stock and consumables are stored correctly and delivered efficiently to laboratory teams. You'll have strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast paced setting.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, with clear communication skills and a flexible approach to supporting the wider lab support team when required. A willingness to learn, confidence using IT systems, and the ability to work safely and accurately while handling deliveries and laboratory consumables are essential. This role is based on 25 hours per week, worked across 08:30 am-1:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Goods in: unpacking deliveries and storing at the correct temperatures; checking for damaged items, cross referencing against purchase orders, and inspecting the condition of goods.
- Stores Management: regular stock checks and inventory/Kanban management; logging items into stock management databases, labelling, and placing items in their designated storage areas. Distributing stock to end users.
- Following strict health and safety protocols and keeping warehouse or storage areas clean and organised.
- Supporting the wider lab support team when required, including glass wash operations, general laboratory housekeeping, and hazardous waste management.
Requirements
- Willingness to learn and develop with a proactive approach.
- Experience with stock management is an advantage but not required as full training will be provided.
- Teamwork & independence: ability to work effectively both independently and as a committed member of a team.
- Attention to detail with good literacy and numeracy.
- Good level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams & willingness to learn how to use ordering/stock management software.
- Communication: clear and concise written and spoken communication skills.
- Customer service experience is desirable.
- Time management & flexibility: effective time management skills, with the ability to be flexible and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis, sometimes working to very tight deadlines.
- Educated to GCSE level with success in Maths & English.
Physical requirements
Frequent walking, standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, and the ability to lift or carry items typically weighing up to 20 kg.
