Senior Clinical Fellowship in Movement Disorders in Oxford

This post will span the clinical and research gamut of Movement Disorders to develop clinical, research and teaching skills for the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job:

• The Fellow will be expected to see new and follow up patients at two OUHFT outpatient clinics per week at the Department of Neurology, John Radcliffe Hospital West Wing.
• One clinic will alternate between a weekly medical Parkinson's disease clinic and a national atypical Parkinsonism clinic comprising MSA, PSP and CBS patients (supervisor Prof Michele Hu).
• The medical Parkinson's clinic will also provide experience in Duodopa and Apomorphine therapies for complex Parkinson's disease.
• The second clinic will comprise 2 DBS PD Movement disorders clinics per month, 1 botulinum toxin clinic per month and 1 neurogenetics/ataxia clinic per month to offer a broad range of experience.
• All clinics will be discussed in advance and agreed between the successful applicant and their supervisors, to best match their sub specialist experience.

Qualifications:

• MRCP or equivalent Medical Degree
• GMC licence
• CCT in Neurology or registration on the GMC Specialist Register in Neurology (or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview)

Experience:

• General training in Neurology to specialist level or equivalent ST7 and above
• Interest in research with publications, and neurology teaching
• GCP trained (Good Clinical Practice)

Skills:

• Sufficient organisational and leadership skills to effectively meet the demands of this senior Fellow post.
• Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
• Excellent communication, professional and personal skills to be a highly effective team member.
• Good written and spoken English skills.
• Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS.
• Leadership qualification.
• Previous experience in Movement Disorders management including DBS and atypical parkinsonian disorders.
• Evidence of previous high level presentations and audit.
• Ability to analyse research data, present and write up results.
• Prior publication record.

Teaching & Audit:

• Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees.
• Experience of routine clinical audit.
• Management training and experience.
• Teaching qualification.
• Publication of audit in literature.
