Due to the continuing expansion of our Rail Business, Spencer Rail Engineering have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Director based from our head office in Hull. As part of the senior management team, you will support the MD in leading project portfolios to deliver operational and commercial success by driving continuous improvement and development, creating a team and culture fit for our future vision.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of the Rail Business Strategy.
  • Identify and develop project opportunities in line with the Strategic Plan.
  • Lead senior client relationships to deliver repeat business/growth.
  • Build successful project teams.
  • Influence your team to find and use innovative solutions to gain competitive edge.
  • Proactively promote and protect the Spencer brand.
  • Oversee operational delivery, ensuring that ALL practices and regulatory standards are achieved.
  • Ensure that compliance standards are adhered to throughout construction operations.
  • Instil and drive a safety culture, through role model behaviours, ensuring provision of training and setting expectations.
  • Keep abreast of and ensure implementation of up to date regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct HSQE inspections, driving change and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure high level risks are managed and mitigated.
  • Consistently deliver high quality, profitable projects.
  • Provide resources with the capacity and capability to meet the requirements of sourcing, winning and delivering the future workplans.
  • Consistently deliver on quality, safety, programme, client expectations and other business measures.
  • Deliver a commercial performance in line with the Business Plan.
  • Utilise Construction Programmes to monitor progress and deliver commercial advantage.
  • Drive repeat business through credible and reliable delivery of projects.
  • Drive lessons learned activities at every opportunity, ensuring identified continuous improvements are implemented.
  • Build and maintain effective Client and internal stakeholder relationships.
  • Develop, maintain and role model excellent key Client relationships, maximising repeat business opportunities.
  • Build a Project Team and resourcing model capability to meet needs of the forward pipeline.
  • Lead and develop the performance of the Operational Teams to meet existing and future needs of the business.
  • Coach and mentor individuals to maximise potential of themselves and the team.
  • Set robust performance and personal objectives that are aligned to the business plan delivery.
  • Identify talent and potential within the team, driving development and capacity.
  • Identify poor performance within the team and address.
  • Ensure reward and recognition activities are fair, equitable and aligned to business performance.
  • Identify any business level competency gaps and implement a strategy to resolve.

  • People management and development.

  • P&L Management including forecasting.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role is essential.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience equivalent.
