The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe conditions in accordance with PIAA, league, sports medicine and RSD policies/procedures.
Furthermore the candidate will be responsible for instilling Red Knight pride, connecting with youth programs, teaching education through athletics, fundraising.
Qualifications
- Must be a minimum age of 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferable experience working in a supervision role in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students in a diverse work environment.
Essential Functions
- Supervise middle school assistant coaches.
- Supervise student athletes.
- Stay current with rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices.
- Monitor student athletes to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Place student athletes in positions to succeed not only in their sport, but also in life.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with sports medicine staff, game workers, officials, media, students, parents, spectators, and facility staff.
- Ensure all safety measures are observed, including proper care of equipment and surveillance of program participants.
- Attend all training sessions and additional staff meetings.
- Work flexible hours including off season training, early mornings, afternoons/evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Verify student athletes are eligible by PIAA and Reading School District Athletic policies.
- Plan and manage practices/training sessions.
- Secure equipment and facilities after each usage.
- Communicate with RSD admin, Safe Schools, custodial services and/or RPD as necessary.
- Communicate with youth groups and foster participation growth.
- Serve as a good role model to student athletes.
- Distribute, collect and track uniforms/equipment.
- Requisition necessary equipment.
- Support all RSD athletics.
Physical Requirements
- Physically perform all skills required of a coach.
- Hear noises and distress signals in a crowded athletic facility.
- Able to withstand extreme weather conditions.
