We are currently looking to recruit a part-time/full-time medical receptionist/administrator to join our team. This post will be based across 2 sites; Middle Chare Surgery based in Chester Le Street and Woodlands Surgery in Rickleton. Exact details on hours and days to be discussed.

The successful candidate will be patient focused, a good team player and flexible in their approach.

Main duties of the job:
  • Being adaptable, working well as a team and providing a positive experience are essential for the role of Admin/Receptionist.
  • Your role will be to deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments, action medication queries, repeat prescriptions, online repeat prescription requests in a prompt manner.
  • You will be expected to communicate effectively with patients, medical professionals, hospitals and any other 3rd party providers.
  • You will be responsible for using care navigation to signpost patients to the most appropriate service so they are seen in the quickest most efficient way.

Job responsibilities:
  • You will be responsible for administrative functions, including but not limited to:
  • Reception duties providing a positive patient experience, information, advice and signposting.
  • Telephone receive and make telephone calls and respond to voicemails as required.
  • Handling clinical specimens ensuring correct details and appropriate handover.
  • Appointments use GP systems to book, manage and cancel appointments.
  • Patient record management record all patient contacts and ensure timely and accurate data entry.
  • Ensure escalation of issues or urgent clinical cases to the appropriate person.
  • Patient administration and filing support patients with paperwork, registration and record management.
  • Results use of clinical systems to respond to patient result requests.
  • Printing, scanning and photocopying ensuring information is uploaded to records.
  • Workflow processing letters and ensuring continuity of care.
  • Patient tasks and emails/E-consults.
  • Prescriptions including repeat prescriptions.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Recognise and report issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
Person Specification:
  • Qualifications: Educated to GCSE level or equivalent GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above) AMSPAR Receptionists Qualification.
  • Experience: Experience of working within GP Surgery is preferable.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
