Senior Scientist (Purification) in Macclesfield

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Scientist (Purification) to join our Protein Sciences Team in Macclesfield (SK10 4TG). This is a permanent position.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for establishing and executing work plans for the protein science area.
• Accountable for protein science project delivery from early drug discovery projects across modalities and therapeutic areas.
• Design and execution of agreed work plans for early drug discovery projects.
• Support more than one project and direct internal resources to achieve agreed goals.
• Provide oversight of results to ensure quality to project specifications.
• Accountable, together with project counterparts, for the design of experiments, review of documentation and client presentations.
• Conduct thorough data analysis ahead of product release to internal or external customers.
• Propose experimental designs and novel approaches to identify/advance best strategies in addition to planning/executing project deliverables.
• Implement standalone scientific services and deliverables to customers.
• Lead colleagues to co-develop plans for personal growth, aligned to business needs.
• Represent the company at scientific and/or business conferences.
• Present and publish peer‑reviewed science to increase own and Evotec's scientific reputation.

Key Accountabilities

• Adapt the above responsibilities to the specific protein science environment and meet the agreed timelines, budgets, and quality criteria.

Knowledge & Experience

• Strong technical knowledge of Protein Biochemistry, Structural Biology or Biophysics with proven ability to design and deliver results across target families.
• Design and optimise protein purification workflows using chromatographic techniques and analytical tools.
• Operate ÄKTA systems and collaborate with upstream teams.
• Troubleshoot expression and purification challenges using creative problem‑solving.
• Build and execute work plans with internal and external customers.
• Demonstrate a track record of leading scientists across specialist fields and facilitating employee growth through co‑development of PDP.
• Show successful problem‑solving, high‑quality science and influencing of stakeholders.
• Experience in scientific development and research with publications in a relevant field.

Education & Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline; alternatively a first degree plus significant industry experience in drug discovery.
