Location: Woodside Clinic, St Catherine's Hospice

Responsible to: Community Services Manager

Job Summary: A vital role in supporting our specialist Lymphoedema nurses at the Woodside Clinic in the grounds of St Catherine's Hospice with admin and housekeeping tasks.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Welcoming patients on arrival to clinic, updating staff and offering refreshments
  • General admin duties including photocopying and filing
  • Arranging transport for patients
  • Sending appointment reminders to patients
  • Taking telephone messages for nursing staff and medical secretaries
  • Entering patient information onto patient records using electronic records system
  • Maintaining an organised, clutter-free reception and waiting area
  • Ensuring adequate stock levels of clinical supplies in clinical rooms

Confidentiality: You should be aware of the confidential nature of the Hospice environment and/or your role. Any matters of a confidential nature, relating to patients, carers, relatives, staff or volunteers must not be divulged to any unauthorised person.

Data protection: You should make yourself aware of the requirements of the Data Protection Act and follow local codes of practice to ensure appropriate action is taken to safeguard confidential information.

Person specification:

Qualifications:

  • Educated to GCSE level including English language grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working within an administrative environment
  • Basic IT skills
  • Experience of working within a clinical setting
  • Experience of using electronic patient records system

Key Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills on the telephone and in person with patients, colleagues, relatives and carers
  • Active listening skills and ability to empathise with patients
  • Attention to detail and organisational skills
