About Us: Located in the heart of South London, Lambeth Borough is a vibrant community of over 317,600 residents. Stretching from the dynamic neighbourhood of Streatham in the South to the iconic landmarks of Waterloo in the North, we are proud to be the 9th largest borough in London. Our diversity is our strength, with more than 130 languages spoken, making Lambeth the home of the Windrush generation, London's largest LGBTQ+ community, and a thriving Portuguese speaking community. With exceptional schools, lush green spaces including Brockwell Park, cultural gems like the Black Cultural Archives, and world renowned institutions such as St Thomas's Hospital, Lambeth offers an enriching and dynamic environment.
Within the Resources directorates, the Strategy and Impact Service sits at the centre of Lambeth Council and plays a critical role working with services across the council to help drive our Lambeth 2030 ambitions, monitor and evaluate our progress and work with key partners to produce the best outcomes for our residents. The Strategy and Policy Manager will be joining a small, dedicated team with a diverse work programme and evolving priorities. In the last year the team has supported significant work, this includes helping the council be reaccredited as Borough of Sanctuary, supporting the development of the Lambeth Growth Plan and coordinating the organisation's Corporate Peer Challenge. We are passionate about delivering impactful, positive change for our communities. We know that to be the best borough we can possibly be, we need to harness and nourish our assets, resources, and community energy, so that everyone in Lambeth can belong, can thrive, and so that nobody is left behind.
About the Role: We are seeking a knowledgeable, agile, curious and highly motivated Strategy and Policy Design Manager to be part of the Strategy and Impact team at Lambeth Council. Post the recent local elections, this is an excellent and rare opportunity to shape priorities and then lead strategic projects to help realise them. Working with colleagues across Strategy and Impact, including the External Affairs, Performance, Research and Equalities teams, you will have the opportunity to influence projects from design to delivery. You will need to work well with a variety of stakeholders including senior officers, councillors and external partners to address wicked issues and find consensus. You should be comfortable working across several complex projects at the same time, at times managing ambiguity in your work to reach clear, tangible recommendations. A passion for all things local government is vital, including a good understanding of the challenges the sector faces and an appreciation of all the factors that create impactful policy and strategy.
Lambeth is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from individuals from a range of backgrounds, particularly those traditionally underrepresented in policy leadership - including Black, Asian and Multi ethnic, LGBTQ+ and gender diverse applicants. At Lambeth, we are dedicated to providing quality services and equal opportunities for all.
