As Deputy Head of Newsletters, you will help to shape the national news agenda by editing and publishing The Telegraph's award winning newsletters, delivered daily to an audience of millions. You will oversee the day to day running of the editorial team and be directly responsible for maintaining publishing standards and optimising the performance of our newsletter roster, working with senior journalists to create bespoke, high quality content. The Deputy Head of Newsletters will also contribute to overall strategy and deputise for the Head of Newsletters when necessary. This is a fast paced role, in which you will collaborate with colleagues across the newsroom on some of our most important products. You will be required to react quickly to breaking news events while simultaneously working on longer term projects. This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong news judgement, flawless editing skills and an interest in using data to make editorial decisions. You must be able to exercise editorial judgement independently and quickly in live news situations. Prior experience working on newsletters at a national news organisation is preferred. This is a full time role that may require working a 7 day rota and flexible hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crafting and curating bespoke email newsletters around The Telegraph's key content verticals
  • Leveraging and managing key editorial and design talent to ensure The Telegraph's newsletters maintain our highest standards
  • Collaborating with key editorial stakeholders to develop new newsletter strands and series
  • Collaborating with marketing, technology and CRM teams to optimise newsletter distribution
  • Deputising for the Head of Newsletters when appropriate and necessary
  • Using data to inform decisions around editorial content and distribution models
  • Responding to reader queries
  • Subbing newsletter copy prior to publication

Essential Skills

  • Excellent subbing, editing and production skills and proven ability to produce the highest quality work on a consistent basis
  • Experience of creating and curating high quality editorial content for engaged audiences
  • Excellent understanding of The Telegraph's brands and journalistic values
  • Excellent understanding of the existing digital publishing landscape and emerging media trends
  • Experience using analytics tools and data reports to inform editorial decisions
  • Direct experience producing editorial newsletters

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of using personal judgement to increase engagement metrics
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and departments and experience working collaboratively with multi discipline teams
  • Proven ability to think outside of the box and go the extra mile in order to produce the very best results
  • Experience working with and/or an understanding of subscription based business models
