The Volunteer Art Lead is a key role in leading arts and crafts activities for patients, working independently to plan and coordinate projects, and to facilitate activities in a caring and supportive environment working alongside Day Hospice staff. We are looking for someone who is passionate about art to work with the patients and carers at Day Hospice and introduce them to drawing, painting and other crafts, or to work with individuals with an existing interest on their own projects and/or enhancing their skills.
Responsibilities
- Working with the Day Hospice Team in planning and delivering arts-related activities.
- Helping to create and produce flyers & posters promoting Arts Programme-related events or activities.
- Working closely with the Art Therapy Team to ensure that there is a solid link between the two.
- Rotating the display of artwork around the Hospice, ensuring that it remains fresh and comforting for patients and staff alike.
Time Requirement
8-10 hours a month. This can increase if the volunteer is willing and able to commit more time.
Skills and Qualities
- A caring, imaginative and creative person with a passion for art.
- A knowledge of drawing/painting/craft techniques.
- The flexibility to work with hospice staff and other volunteers.
- To be comfortable and confident working independently.
- To be able to work sensitively and empathically with a diverse range of people.
- An understanding of St Joseph's Mission and Core values.
Experience
Experience of working in an art-related workspace. Full training given. St Joseph's Hospice will provide a reference on request after six months of continuous volunteering.
