Chautauqua Institution operates the Chautauqua Hotel Company, a historic full‑service hotel that has 150 rooms for guests. The Athenaeum Hotel houses the Heirloom Restaurant and the Lobby Lounge, and is open from late April through October for conferences and events.

Compensation

Compensation for this position starts at $16.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $18.00/Hour.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the hotel lobby and common areas.
  • Assist guests with their queries and direct them to the reception desk.
  • Remove trash, clean and dust furniture, fixtures, and decor in the lobby and front porch.
  • Ensure all lobby and employee restrooms are clean, stocked with supplies, and functioning properly.
  • Arrange furniture and maintain the lobby area for guest comfort.
  • Report maintenance issues, equipment damages, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately for resolution.
  • Comply with OSHA's Blood Borne Pathogen and Hazard Communication/Safety Data Standards, including proper use of protective equipment when cleaning up blood or other potentially infectious materials and/or using cleaning chemicals.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative, productive working relationships with team members and management.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and training/development programs, including sharing expertise with new hires.
  • Report work‑related injuries immediately to manager/supervisor and Human Resources using an appropriate Injury Report, even if not seeking medical attention.

Schedule

Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part‑time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre‑season) and beyond season based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement.

Housing

No employer‑provided housing is available for this position. Applicants should plan to secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.
