The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) is recognised as a leading centre of excellence for creative learning and vocational training within the performing arts and creative industries. You will teach Design and Making skills on modules across both our Theatre and Performance Design course and our Theatre and Production Technology course at all levels (4 - 6). You will be passionate about teaching the theory and practice of Set Design in a theatre and performance context. Responsibilities also include project and production supervision, module leadership, assessment, and feedback.

Collaborating with the Programme Leader and Head of Department, you will be expected to contribute to the development of course content, support students academically and pastorally at all levels, and carry out administrative duties appropriate to the role.

You must have experience as a Set Designer, demonstrated through professional practice, and be educated to at least degree level or have undergone comparable professional training at a recognised centre of excellence. Some previous teaching experience in higher education or similar training provision is essential.

You will have an excellent working knowledge of current health and safety practices, industry trends, and use of CAD software. You will demonstrate a high level of interpersonal and written skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Your student-focussed, inclusive teaching approach, guidance, and feedback will provide a supportive and creative environment for students to develop their practical skills. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to preparing students for sustained employment as designers and makers.

This permanent post will commence from September 2026 or thereabouts.
