We are recruiting independent members with senior leadership experience and a strong commitment to higher education, public service and organisational stewardship. Such members must be able to provide independent constructive challenge to the executive team and act as ambassadors for the University.

Candidates who can bring strategic insight, development and innovation expertise from a broad range of sectors – including business, industry, international partnerships, entrepreneurship, technology and digital innovation, finance, professional services, healthcare, education, creative and cultural industries, the public sector, charities and social enterprises – are encouraged to apply.

The Board meets six times a year with a strategic away day combined with a formal meeting. Members are expected to prioritise attendance, and also attend training and development days. Members also have opportunities to join one or more of the Board's sub committees. Governors are not paid, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

The University of Lincoln is an increasingly diverse community of students and staff, and it seeks to reflect that in its Board of Governors. Applications are welcome from individuals of any race, sex, disability, religion, belief, age or sexual orientation. We particularly encourage applications from women and individuals from ethnically diverse backgrounds, who are currently underrepresented among our Board membership.

Selection will be based on the skills, experience and attributes required for the role. Interested individuals should submit a brief covering letter outlining their expertise and experience with reference to the role descriptor, and a copy of their CV, on or before Sunday 5 July 2026. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held in July/August 2026.

Please contact Aaron Smith, Secretary to the Board if you wish to arrange an informal conversation about this opportunity.
