A well established 2,000 acre arable farm in Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Lead Operator to join a small full time team. This is a hands on role for someone who takes pride in operating and maintaining machinery to a high standard and enjoys being part of a close knit farming operation. Working alongside the Farm Manager, you will play a key role in delivering the farm's cropping programme and ensuring day to day operations run smoothly throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating modern arable machinery including tractors, drills, cultivators and combines
- Sprayer operation throughout the cropping season
- Combine driving during harvest
- Machinery setup, maintenance and routine servicing
- Grain handling and grain store work during harvest
- Supporting general farm maintenance and occasional building work
- Working as part of a small, dedicated farm team
The Candidate
- Proven experience in arable farming operations
- Confident operating sprayers and combines
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 certificates required
- Strong mechanical understanding and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for tasks
- A practical, reliable approach with a willingness to work longer hours during busy periods
Package
- About 40 hours per week during winter months
- 60+ hours per week during harvest and peak seasonal periods, with overtime paid
- Hourly rate £16.00 - £17.50 DOE
- 2 bedroom cottage available as part of the package
Candidate Requirements
- All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for.
- Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
