Are you a compassionate and dedicated professional looking to make a profound difference in a child's life? We're seeking an exceptional SEN Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a pupil with complex needs at a welcoming primary school in Bolton.
About the Role
This is a highly rewarding position supporting a child who requires specialist care and individualized attention throughout the school day. You'll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure the pupil can access their education and develop to their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment. The role involves personal care duties, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable with intimate care routines and understands the importance of dignity and respect in all aspects of support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with complex special educational needs
- Assist with personal care needs including toileting, feeding, and hygiene routines
- Implement individualized learning plans and support strategies
- Help the pupil access the curriculum at an appropriate level
- Support the pupil's communication, social, and emotional development
- Monitor and record the pupil's progress and wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and healthcare professionals
- Support the pupil during breaks, lunchtimes, and school activities
- Adapt activities and resources to meet the pupil's specific needs
- Promote independence whilst ensuring safety at all times
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with children with complex special educational needs
- Experience providing personal care (essential)
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships
- Physical capability to support personal care and mobility needs
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Flexibility and problem‑solving skills
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- Training in personal care, moving and handling, or specific SEN conditions
- First Aid qualification
- Experience with communication aids or alternative communication methods
