An exciting opportunity to join a busy Hospital Portering team within the Directorate of Estates, Facilities & PFI. The post holder is responsible for a full range of Portering duties at County Hospital within the 24 hour, 365 day Portering service. This zero hour role requires support during busy periods and coverage of annual leave and absences, with shift patterns: 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am, and occasionally outside these hours.
Pay: Basic pay: £12.92 per hour + 12% WTD pay as a bank worker. Unsociable hours (20:00 to 06:00): additional 41% per hour. Saturday Working: additional 41% per hour. Sunday Working: additional 83% per hour.
Main Duties:
- Provide and maintain a professional, efficient, effective and timely service to patients, visitors and departments.
- Assist with patient transfers, patient handling and waste removal.
- Move items and equipment throughout the hospital as required.
- Support during busy periods and cover absence/leave.
- Change shifts as mandated by hospital schedule.
- Adhere to Portering Procedure and Policy.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Previous experience in Portering or patient facing role advantageous, but not essential.
- Previous NHS experience helpful.
Person Specification:
- Education and Qualifications: Verbal & written communication - speak clearly, read & write English. Basic computer skills. NVQ Customer Care Level II (or similar). Certificate in Manual Handling. Gas Handling certificate (BOC or equivalent). Fire Safety Training.
- Experience: Basic understanding of Health and Safety Regulations. Dealing with complaints. Customer care / working in a customer led environment. Knowledge of Portering Procedure and Policy. Experience with Portering operational systems & equipment. Security in a healthcare setting. Knowledge of clinical waste procedures.
- Skills, ability and knowledge: Basic understanding of Portering & Security routines. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing demands. Ability to explain what makes an effective Portering & Security Service. Ability to explain what makes an effective Healthcare Service.
- Personal Qualities: Good level of physical fitness. Prepared and able to work shifts; satisfactory attendance and time keeping. Professional manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and diplomacy. Ability to act under own initiative and work alone. Self motivated.
Physical Requirements: Physically fit and able to walk around 10,000 steps per day and undertake other physical responsibilities. Disclosure and Barring Service Check: Post subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, Exceptions Order 1975. Submission for Disclosure and Barring Service (former CRB) required.
