The role of GP Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Heads of School and Primary Care Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the objectives of NHS England Workforce Training and Education (WT&E). The GP Training Programme Director is professionally accountable to the Head of School and managerially accountable to the GP Patch Associate Dean. The GP Training Programme Director will focus on the improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. The role is evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.
To support the Primary Care Dean and Postgraduate Dean, GP Training Programme Directors will work across the spectrum of health and, where relevant, social care, within the context of a team, so that the provision of education reflects changing service models. This will deliver an integrated workforce comprising individuals from a spectrum of professional and other backgrounds. This role will be part of the Brighton and Mid Sussex GP Training Programme Scheme.
Responsibilities

- Strong leadership skills are essential.
- Good knowledge of the GP curriculum and associated mandatory requirements, and the ability to positively influence the expansion of GP specialty training.
- Extensive knowledge of General Practice, current GP registered with the GMC.
- Experience in healthcare education management - formal university course or equivalent experience.
- Act as a representative of the Primary Care Department and a positive advocate for NHS England at all times, promoting leadership that inspires, motivates and empowers all staff.

- Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, related NHS organisations and regulatory bodies.
- Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda.
- Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years.
- Active involvement in, and up to date with, appraisal processes.
- Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi professional workforce matters.
- Doctors require a Licence to Practise.
- Previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education.
- Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
- Understanding of current health, social care and education policy.
Qualifications and Training
- Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body.
- Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (e.g., educator courses, Train the Trainer, etc).
- Educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, or presently undertaking an approved and validated course to obtain at the earliest opportunity.
- GP Medical practitioner registered with the GMC with a current licence to practice.
- Higher educational qualification such as a postgraduate diploma or Masters in Medical Education.
