We are seeking a skilled and motivated professional on behalf of our client, specialising in vehicle chassis modifications and engineering. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality alterations, installations, and problem‑solving across a range of commercial vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Wheelbase Alterations: Carry out precise extension or shortening of vehicle wheelbases to optimise weight distribution and improve manoeuvrability.
- Axle Configuration: Reposition, add, or remove axles as required. Ensure correct axle weight distribution in line with operational and regulatory requirements.
- Component Integration: Install and integrate essential chassis components, including:
- Suspension systems
- Braking systems
- Electrical systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Chassis & Body Modifications: Remove existing vehicle bodies and refit them to alternative chassis. Modify and adapt subframes to suit new configurations. Fabricate and weld crossmembers where required to ensure structural integrity.
- PTO System Installation: Install Power Take‑Off (PTO) systems across a variety of truck platforms.
- Problem Solving & Diagnostics: Diagnose and resolve chassis‑related issues, including:
- Structural weaknesses
- Mechanical failures
- Electrical faults
- Apply root cause analysis techniques to deliver effective, long‑term solutions.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in MIG and TIG welding (essential).
- Strong background in engineering, ideally within a related automotive or commercial vehicle industry.
- Experience operating forklift trucks for positioning parts and panels.
- Solid mechanical knowledge, particularly:
- Air systems
- Brake systems on commercial vehicles
- Ability to fabricate and install bespoke, made‑to‑measure components.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to handle complex technical challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
Desirable (Not Essential) for the role of HGV Chassis Fabricator:
- Class 1 or Class 2 driving licence.
