Role Overview
The Health & Safety & Facilities Manager owns the end-to-end design, implementation, and enforcement of Health & Safety and Facilities systems. The role is accountable for:
- H&S: building, implementing and embedding Hived's H&S standards, processes, and culture.
- Facilities: owning consumables management; taking ownership of Facilities management, building and managing a system to manage ad hoc Facilities needs (e.g. tickets); and taking ownership of the Facilities budget, supporting site General Managers to reduce Overheads expenditure.
Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Design and implement a site H&S management system (H&S trainings, audits, risk assessments, inspections, incident reporting, corrective actions).
- Enforce H&S policies and standards on the floor; challenge unsafe behaviours.
- Embed H&S incident reporting.
- Lead incident and near‑miss investigations and root cause analysis in collaboration with Ops.
- Deliver H&S training and ensure adoption and compliance, not box‑ticking.
- Build and embed H&S‑first culture.
- Escalate material risks or non‑compliance to Operations leadership.
Facilities & Maintenance
- Shift facilities from exclusively reactive ticket handling to planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on core assets.
- Own inspection and maintenance plans for: Shutters and dock doors, Conveyance systems, Electric pallet equipment / MHE, Core warehouse infrastructure.
- Triage and prioritise facilities tickets based on safety and operational risk.
- Track equipment health, downtime and repeat failures.
- Define and manage supplier SLAs for response time and quality.
Non-Inventory & Consumables
- Own the non‑inventory catalogue (e.g. scanners, printers, labels, batteries).
- Define minimum stock levels linked to volume and site activity.
- Ensure availability while avoiding over‑stocking.
- Coordinate replenishment with Operations and suppliers.
Budget & Stakeholder Management
- Take ownership of Facilities Overheads costs, working with site GMs to identify and reduce spend.
- Work with Finance to understand and operate within the site‑level facilities and maintenance budgets.
- Make cost vs risk trade‑offs explicit and visible.
- Partner closely with Operations and Finance on priorities and escalations.
- Maintain strong working relationships with maintenance and compliance suppliers.
Requirements
- 4‑6+ years' experience in logistics, warehousing, or industrial environments.
- Proven ability to build and embed H&S systems and H&S qualifications, not just operate existing ones.
- Strong understanding of warehouse equipment and infrastructure.
- Comfortable enforcing standards and escalating non‑compliance.
- Able to balance safety, cost and operational continuity.
- Hands on, structured, and inspection‑driven.
