George Salter Academy is a friendly, happy and vibrant 11-18 academy, serving a multi-cultural community and we are seeking to appoint an inspiring and ambitious Head of History to join us from September 2026/January 2027.

The successful candidate will combine strong subject expertise with the ability to motivate pupils and staff, ensuring that all students develop a deep understanding of the past and the critical skills needed to succeed both academically and as informed citizens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop and inspire the History department to secure high standards of teaching and learning
  • Design and implement an ambitious, well sequenced and inclusive history curriculum at KS3 and KS4 (and KS5 where applicable)
  • Monitor progress, outcomes and achievement, taking effective action to maximise pupil attainment
  • Support, coach and develop members of the department, including early career teachers
  • Contribute to whole school priorities, CPD and wider curriculum development
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, positive behaviour and academic curiosity
